There is no one "current" day-ahead price — it is set per 15-minute slot for the whole next day and moves hour by hour. To see the price that applies right now for Germany/Luxembourg, open a live EPEX SPOT day-ahead ticker like Stromfee's.

Why there is no single "current" price

The day-ahead market fixes a separate price for every settlement slot of the following day in one auction. So "the" price isn't a single number — it's a curve of values. For Germany/Luxembourg the market now settles in 15-minute slots (MTU), meaning up to 96 different prices per day. The price "now" is simply the value of the slot the clock is currently in.

Where to read today's live price

Open a day-ahead ticker sourced from ENTSO-E / EPEX SPOT, such as Stromfee's Strompreis-heute page. It shows the current DE/LU spot price in ct/kWh for the active 15-minute slot, refreshed every 15 minutes, plus today's minimum, average and maximum so you can place the current value in context.

How to read the number correctly

The figure is the wholesale exchange price — the raw energy cost only. Your household or business tariff adds grid fees, levies, taxes and supplier margin on top, so the retail rate you pay is higher than the raw day-ahead value. Prices are usually quoted in €/MWh on the exchange; divide by 10 to get ct/kWh (e.g. €80/MWh = 8 ct/kWh).

Watch the daily spread, not just the level

The most useful thing the day-ahead curve tells you is the gap between the cheapest and most expensive slots of the day. In tight markets that spread can be large, and prices can even turn negative when generation exceeds demand. If you run flexible loads, an EV charger or a battery, that spread is where the savings — or the arbitrage revenue — actually come from.

What "day-ahead" means vs. intraday

Day-ahead prices are set the afternoon before delivery in a single daily auction, so tomorrow's full price curve is known today. Intraday is a separate, continuously traded market that lets participants adjust positions closer to real time. When people say "day-ahead price now," they mean the pre-fixed value of the slot currently being delivered.
